I had the honor to interview Professor Dafna Zur, an Associate Professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Stanford University (Stanford), and the Director of both the Center for East Asian Studies and the Undergraduate Studies, and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. Professor Zur received a B.A. in Asian Studies and General Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and M.A. and Ph.D. in Asian Studies from the University of British Columbia. Professor Zur has earned numerous honors and awards throughout her career and teaches Korean literature, cinema, and popular culture at Stanford. I interviewed her through email on 11 August 2020. This interview includes Professor Zur’s journey as a Korean studies professor in the United States, what Stanford has to offer, and valuable advice on how to succeed in the field of Korean studies.
